Step 5 – Grind Away
Do you have a tree stump that is an eyesore and need it removed? We are up to the task. If you would like to try to tackle the task yourself, here is how you can get it done:
Place the wheel of the grinder directly above the stump. Most grinders make loud noises so be sure to wear ear plugs. After turning the power on, place the wheel of the grinder until it reaches the stump and let the grinder eat the stump. Use the level on the machine to move the wheel from side to side to clear all the remaining portions of the stump. Let the machine rest into the stump and create a hole approximately 10 inches deep. Be sure to keep your feet out of the way as you let your grinder dig into the stump.
While grinding hardwood, never force the machine into the stump. Instead, let the blades of the machine skim the top of the stump and feed on it. It will take some time to finish but this will help prevent damage to your grinder.
After grinding the stump, start grinding the exposed roots of the tree. Methodically grind the exposed roots from the stump to the area where they disappear into the soil.
Step 6 – Clear The Debris
After grinding the stump and the roots, gather the wood chips and put it on a compost pile and let it rot. Decaying wood is a good source of nitrogen for the soil.
